Before I start explaining what is 21st Century Literature, let me first explain it individually.

Literature is a group of works of art made up of words that reflects one’s tradition, culture and lifestyle in a specific region.

21st Century is the current century we have right now, which began on January 1, 2000 and will end on December 31, 2099.

Therefore, 21st Century Literature, which we can also call as modern literature, is group of works that was written and published in the year 2000s.

What you see above are examples of modern literature.

From that we can tell that 21st Century Literature:

involves imaginative writing
deals with current themes
reflects technological culture
traces artistic representation of shared and familiar experiences.
reflects social issues of modern-day society

MY THOUGHTS

21st Century Literature from the Philippines and the World is what our subject is really called, but we usually call it LIT1 or simply literature.

To be honest, this subject is kinda new to me because this is the first time I encountered learning about the modern literature because what we usually learn are the past literary works. Since it talks about present times or modern days, I really expect this subject to be interesting since it will deal with topics which we are currently experiencing.

If I will describe this subject in my own words, I can say that 21st century literature are composed of modern literature that basically talks about the kind of society, culture, tradition or lifestyle we have right now. Some authors nowadays try also to attack the government or politicians through these modern literature; just like what Rizal did back then.

I think that studying 21st century literature is such a big help for us students in many different ways:

It helps us gain awareness about the current issues in our country and in other part of the world.
It helps us build unity despite our differences like races, color, and gender among millions of people around the world.
It helps us improve many skills like our thinking, reading, writing, etc.
It helps us to express ourselves; our opinion and beliefs, and our stand that we keep to ourselves.

These are just few things I think that modern literature might bring us, and I know that there are a lot more benefits we can get from it.

And lastly, I think that the literature subject we have right now will not be as boring as the literature before since it tackles about the modern days. We will not be bored learning it since it is our generation which is involved, and we will feel so much related to it.

WHAT IT REALLY IS?

21st Century Literature from the Philippines and the World can be especially useful for exploring national, ethnic, linguistic, and socio-political issues, in addition to serving as a model of connected and active student learning.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

Studying or getting involved in any way with the literature of today’s times can:

provide insights into the modern world
helps the students in interpreting the social and political problems plaguing today’s society
promote discussion and the acceptance of new ideas
